As a Council you are privy to secure data, therefore, you need to ensure that your site is secure. At WJP Software Limited we use the most up to date programming techniques to ensure that our coding is secure but we also ensure all our sites hold SSL certificates.
We believe that as a user of a site you need to make them feel safe and confident about interacting with you especially when you hold secure data and you need to affirm that you are, who you say you are especially when you are asking for confidential information. A secure site meets Google’s latest standards, also, as a side offers better search engine rankings. If you don’t have this security measure it will mean that it is less likely to be found and a customer is less likely to engage.
If a site has an SSL Certificate it means personal, sensitive and financial information is encrypted, protected and secure and authenticates your website meaning it is really the website it claims to be and not a hacker posing.
In layman terms means the data is locked and can only be unlocked by the intended recipient.
And you can tell that a site has this certificate because it will have HTTPS in the URL and a padlock icon.
Therefore when you look for a website company make sure they offer this level of security. It may cost a bit more but it is essential to the protection of your website.
